The Niji-ZOU rainbow-colored elephants symbolize a happy world. Unlike a pet or a plant that a person might bring into their home in hopes of improving their health and spirits, Niji-ZOU comforts people by enabling them to move between reality and fantasy. Their presence radiates the reality of animals coexisting with people, like the ability of wild plants to embrace one’s soul. They exude warmth and life force, because they are in tune with the natural forces that leave people awestruck. Like a mother giving birth to new life, they cause rain to burst forth from clouds, and flowers to bloom. But like children, they romp through the universe, exploring the moon and clouds. The simple lines that depict Niji-ZOU bring to mind such words as happy, child, soft, innocent, kind, fun, uncomplicated, peace, healing, and cradle.

GAL TACO doesn’t munch on Mexican tacos, but rather grabs up whatever she wants with her numerous hands, i.e. “taco,” meaning “octopus” in Japanese. This bold chic with an inferiority complex is the creation of Kaoruco, the artist who created “PLISA,” the image character for the NTV program “@supli!” Her version of a UFO catcher and the print club machine, which turns out tiny photo stickers, is a huge hit among girls. In the future, Kaoruco plans to form a band to give musical expression to the world of GAL TACO. A GAL TACO picture book is now underway. The light-hearted and funny story features TACO BO, who is convinced he and GAL TACO are soul-mates.

This feline is never finicky, always knowing exactly what she wants. No matter what the stakes, she hangs tough, never compromising herself or the things she believes in. But, if you’ve been around a couple thousand years and have captured the hearts of countless Egyptian kings and European nobles, you too might have a will iron and eyes that radiate strength and mystery. This cool chic is a clear cut above the countless cute characters that crowd store shelves.
