The most colorful and flamboyant wrestlers from Michinoku Wrestling make their debut in character form. The fun-loving characters struggle to hang tough and win their matches. Michinoku Wrestling, also known as the Northeastern Wrestling Organization, was founded in 1993, as the first regional wrestling organization in Japan. Organizing exhibition matches primarily in the Tohoku region, they quickly developed a wide following, proving that wrestling is not just a sport limited to hardcore fans, but also entertainment for the family. Over a million people have attended matches. In 2005, the organization will relocate their headquarters from Morioka to Sendai. The group plans to organize or participate in 120 matches nationwide, and expects to sell 100,000 tickets for the year. Hoping to draw more visitors to the region, a committee was established to come up with ways to make Michinoku Wrestling more thrilling and enticing to the public. Committee members hail from various fields, and include actor Takashi Ukaji and psychiatrist Rika Kayama.
